The science of yoga has a rich history drawn from the course of civilization in ancient India. Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between the mind and the body. The word “Yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit root “Yuj”, which means “to join” or “to yoke” or “to unite”.

According to yogic scriptures, the practice of yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of universal consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between mind and body, man and nature. Ultimately, the goal of yoga is self-actualization, to overcome all kinds of suffering that lead to the “state of liberation” (Moksha) or “freedom”. Yoga shows the practitioners a way to a sharper, calmer mind and a healthier body allowing them to discover a greater purpose and a deeper meaning in their lives.
